Dark Strike

Dark Strike: Book 3 Preview-Dangerous Humor

The Story

Ashbourne, Georgia is still recovering from the fallout of Project Phoenix and the foundry fire that closed the last chapter on Stone. Private investigator Myra Jones has settled into a hard routine of surveillance work by day and rooftops by night. The city is quieter than it has been in years.

It doesn’t last.

A crew of expertly planned robberies starts feeding a weapons pipeline that runs through shell companies, forged paperwork, and a network of powerful men who never show their faces. The man behind it is Larry Biggs, a patient, polished criminal who learned from the best. Then a catastrophe at an abandoned chemical plant puts a far more dangerous player on the board.

His name is Jack. He is calm. He is funny. And he finds everything that frightens you hilarious.

Myra follows the trail through Ashbourne’s galas, warehouses, and rail yards. Chief Milton’s department races to keep up. Willie Payton’s information is as useful as ever and just as costly. As the crew gets bolder, Myra learns that some enemies can’t be outfought. They have to be outthought.

Dark Strike is stronger than she has ever been. This time, strength might not be enough.

Meet the Cast

The Recurring Characters

Myra Jones / Dark Strike
A private investigator with sharp instincts. At 5’2″ she is easy to underestimate. As Dark Strike she stands 6’3″ in living black armor with a flowing cape and a Split Lightning Strike emblem. Role: the investigator who follows the trail, and the hero who ends it.

Clay Pritchard
Myra’s tech support and tactical anchor. He sees what she can’t, hears what she misses, and keeps her pointed in the right direction. Role: her lifeline. This time, the case reaches him too.

Sharon Jones
Myra’s mother and the steadiest person in her life. Role: the reminder of who Myra is when the armor comes off.

Chief Jerry Milton
Ashbourne’s Chief of Police. He runs a tight department against a loose, fast-moving enemy. Role: the law’s hand in the fight, and the man who decides when it’s time to move in.

Mayor Shelly Whiteside
Smooth, strategic, and always aware of the cameras. She keeps a careful distance from vigilantes. She keeps a close eye on results. Role: the political pressure on every move Myra makes.

Willie Payton
Ashbourne’s shadow broker. If it happened in this city, he knows about it. If you want to know, it will cost you. Role: the source nobody trusts and everybody needs.

The Storyline Characters

Jack Whitman / Jack Humor
A former Army infantryman whose life splits in two on the worst night of it. What walks out is pale, gaunt, quiet, and always in black gloves. He delivers threats and punchlines in the same flat calm. Role: the villain. Chaos with a sense of humor.

Larry Biggs
Forty-five years old, 6’3″, and always in a tailored suit. A former Georgia football player whose life took a different turn. He runs an illegal weapons operation through robberies and shell companies, with the patience of a chess player. Role: the architect of the operation.

Eddie Barksdale
The muscle and the breacher. If a door is locked, Eddie is the reason it doesn’t stay that way. Role: the crew’s blunt instrument.

Kevin Swinton
The getaway driver and logistics man. When the job goes wrong, he is the reason anyone gets out. Role: the wheelman who keeps the crew moving.

Jerry Nicks
A small-time crew member whose first mistake becomes the first crack in a very large wall. Role: Myra’s first lead.

Not everyone in this cast reaches the last page.
