Book 8 Preview: The World of O

Book 8 of the Black Ghost Series

For seven books, the Black Ghost has fought men.

Corrupt mayors. Mercenaries. Snipers in the mountains. Systems built to control a city. Every enemy Devin Stone has faced, no matter how dangerous, was human. They bled. They made mistakes. They could be outthought.

The World of O is where that changes.

This is the first crossover between The Black Ghost and Bayou Blood. It’s the book where Sumlin’s most dangerous vigilante learns the world is much stranger than he ever imagined.

THE STORY

It starts with a pattern nobody wants to see.

A gas station clerk empties a revolver into a man who keeps walking. A woman barely over a hundred pounds puts a grown man through a wall and doesn’t flinch when she’s tased. A bus stop. A bar fight. A delivery truck torn open on a city street. Every attacker shows strength no human should have and no reaction to pain. Every one goes perfectly still the moment police give a command.

Every tox screen comes back clean.

Detective Anna Harris is the only one in Sumlin PD who takes it seriously. Then she disappears.

Her car turns up locked at the end of Cutter Street. The scene has been scrubbed with bleach. The department calls it a missing person case and starts a forty-eight-hour clock.

Devin Stone doesn’t wait. Officially, Stone Defense Company has been brought in to consult on the assaults. Unofficially, the Black Ghost is already hunting. But the enemies he meets in the dark don’t fight like men. They don’t stop when they’re hurt. They don’t stop when they’re shot. They stop only when something tells them to.

Meanwhile, a cardiologist from Bayou Mounds, Louisiana, arrives in town for a medical symposium. Within hours, a man dies under her hands in the emergency room with a heart rate no human body should survive. Dr. Sheryl Brown knows something is wrong with his blood before the lab tells her.

She’s seen blood like it before. Back home.

As Devin and Sheryl start comparing what they’ve found, the trail leads to Dr. Martin O. He’s a brilliant, disgraced scientist who believes humanity’s greatest flaw is free will itself, and he has built a hidden underground world where it can be taken away.

And he has noticed the man in the mask.

THE RECURRING CAST

Devin Stone / The Black Ghost: He’s facing an enemy that can’t be outfought the usual way, and a case that feels personal from the first night. This is Devin pushed past anything his SEAL training prepared him for.

Wesley Smalls: He’s been the only one who knows Devin’s secret, and he’s watching that secret come under more pressure than ever. He’s also in a race to understand what’s controlling these attackers before it’s too late.

Detective Anna Harris: She found the pattern first and paid for it. Her disappearance sets everything in motion.

Kayla Steins: She runs SDC’s consulting contract with the city, and she isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with anyone in her way. That includes the chief of police and a certain visiting doctor.

Chief Larry Ford: He’s caught between a council that wants the problem kept quiet and a city that’s starting to bleed.

Officer Luke Miller: He’s Anna’s partner on the street, and he refuses to accept the paperwork version of her disappearance. He keeps digging when nobody else will.

THE STORYLINE CAST

Dr. Sheryl Brown: She’s a cardiologist at Bayou Mounds Regional Medical Center. She’s sharp, direct, and not easily impressed by security companies or the men who run them. Bayou Blood readers know exactly who she is. Devin Stone doesn’t. Not yet.

Dr. Martin O: He’s calm, precise, and completely convinced he’s right. O doesn’t see himself as a villain. He sees himself as the man who will finally fix humanity’s broken wiring. His vision makes him one of the most dangerous minds the Black Ghost has ever faced.

The Operators: They’re ordinary people taken off the streets of Sumlin and turned into something else. They’re stronger than they should be. They don’t feel pain. They don’t hesitate, and they won’t stop.

O’s field crew: These are the men who do the taking. They’re professional, careful, and very good at making people disappear.

WHY THIS ONE HITS DIFFERENT

The World of O is the biggest swing the Black Ghost series has taken yet.

It’s a vigilante thriller that crosses into the Bayou Blood universe, and it brings two of the Strike 7 Network’s biggest characters into the same city for the first time. It’s a race against time with someone Devin cares about on the line. And it’s the first time Devin Stone runs into something he can’t explain with tactics, technology, or training.

If you’ve followed the Black Ghost from the beginning, this is the book that blows his world wide open. If you’re a Bayou Blood reader, this is the crossover you’ve been waiting for.

Some things in Sumlin can be fought. Some things have to be believed first.
